BioControl Introduces New Listeria Methods Combining Speed and Accuracy
Bellevue, WA – June 2014 – BioControl Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in food safety testing, has introduced two new Listeria detection methods for their Assurance GDS® pathogen detection platform. Assurance GDS for Listeria spp. Tq and Assurance GDS for Listeria monocytogenes Tq combine simple immunomagnetic separation (IMS) with the exacting specificity of PCR-based detection to provide extremely fast and accurate detection of Listeria from food and environmental samples.
The multiple technologies incorporated into the Assurance GDS assays combine to form one of the most advanced test methods available. A proprietary IMS sample preparation procedure captures and separates Listeria from the enriched sample to help prevent inhibition problems commonly associated with other molecular detection methods. Two additional levels of specificity are provided in the form of highly specific DNA primers and probes that together provide an unprecedented level of accuracy.
The new Assurance GDS Listeria methods offer testing labs operational advantages over other methods including a common single enrichment protocol for all sample types that reduces media preparation costs, simplifies sample set up procedures and allows for samples to be run on both assays. Results are available in just 30 hours, including enrichment, and any Listeria spp. positive result may be tested immediately with the Assurance GDS Listeria monocytogenes assay to determine if the pathogenic organism of concern is present, preventing delays from unnecessary and costly cultural confirmations.
Assurance GDS for Listeria spp. Tq and Assurance GDS for Listeria monocytogenes Tq have been ISO 16140 certified by MicroVal for all human and animal food as well as environmental samples. Both methods have also been validated by AOAC Research Institute and Health Canada as comparable to the associated reference culture methods.
In addition to Listeria spp. and Listeria monocytogenes, the Assurance GDS platform includes assays for Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, non-O157 Shiga Toxigenic E. coli (STEC), Shiga Toxin Genes and Cronobacter.
