Assurance GDS® Listeria monocytogenes Tq Receives Health Canada Approval

Bellevue, WA – April 7, 2014 – BioControl Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in food safety testing, has received Health Canada approval (MFLP-07) for Assurance GDS® Listeria monocytogenes Tq.  During validation, Assurance GDS was found to perform equivalent to the regulatory reference methods for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in ready-to-eat meat and poultry, heat processed dairy, spinach and environmental surfaces.  In addition to the Tq format approval, Health Canada has also approved a matrix extension for fish and seafood.

The Assurance GDS pathogen detection platform offers several benefits to food testing labs and manufacturers, including 3 levels of specificity.  A proprietary IMS-based sample preparation procedure is used to capture and separate Listeria monocytogenes from the enrichment to help prevent inhibition associated with other molecular detection methods. Two additional levels of specificity are provided through the use of both highly specific primers and probes to ensure accurate detection of Listeria monocytogenes. Assurance GDS Tq assays eliminate the need to prepare and dispense TAQ polymerase, as this reagent is now included in the Amplification Tubes which contain all necessary PCR components. ”The new Tq format saves time and labor by removing an entire sample preparation step”, says Lyssa Sakaley, Product Manager at BioControl. “By streamlining workflow and extending the scope to include fish and seafood, we are continuing our efforts to provide customers with the simple, accurate and fast method they need for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in both food and environmental samples”, explains Sakaley.

In addition to Listeria monocytogenes, the Assurance GDS platform includes assays for Listeria spp., Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, Top 6 and 7 STEC, Shiga Toxin Genes and Cronobacter. Assays have been validated by a variety of 3rd parties including AOAC, AFNOR, MicroVal, and Health Canada, as well as, several multinational food manufacturing companies.
