TRANSIA PLATE Total Aflatoxins

Description:
The aflatoxin group of mycotoxins consists of about 20 secondary metabolites of Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus parasiticus and Aspergillus nominus. These fungi predominantly grow in hot climates and infect different foods such as cereals, nuts, spices and dried fruit. Aflatoxin B1 the main concern as it is a potent carcinogen. However, aflatoxin B2, G1, G2, M1 and M2 are all acutely and chronically toxic. Cattle metabolise aflatoxins B1 and B2 to aflatoxins M1 and M2 and therefore residues of the latter are a health hazard for consumers of milk.

The side-effects in humans from consuming aflatoxin residues include liver cancer, chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. EU regulations specify the limits for the total content of aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2 as 4-15 ppb in various foods.

TRANSIA PLATE Total Aflatoxins has been developed for the rapid and reliable quantification of aflatoxins in grain, including wheat, barley and corn/maize, as well as in pistachios, peanuts, almonds, dried fruits, rice and cornflakes.

Features:
  • Quantitative method
  • Competitive indirect-type ELISA
  • Ready-to-use reagents
  • Rapid assay, including 20 min. total incubation time
  • Simplified interpretation of results
  • Detects aflatoxin B1, B2, G1 and G2
  • Limit of detection: 1.8 ppb
